Kate Middleton and Prince William recreate Princess Diana's iconic Taj Mahal pose (pics)
The
Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have arrived at the Taj Mahal. And the
couple have sat on the bench made famous by Prince William's mum,
Princess Diana.
You recall that William’s late mother was memorably pictured on the
bench in front of the Indian landmark in 1992 as her marriage to Prince
Charles unravelled. The image quickly became a poignant symbol of her
loneliness.
The bench she was sitting on was the very seat on which some 12 years earlier a still single Charles
had posed and vowed to return one day with a bride. But it was a promise Charles never kept.
By the time he and Diana finally made it to India together their
marriage was on the rocks and the couple officially separated months
later.
But now, 24 years later, Princess Diana’s son has made his own
pilgrimage to the Taj Mahal to create, he says, ‘new memories’ of his
own.
Prince William’s visit to Taj Mahal has long been predicted to be one of
the highlights of his tour of India with his wife, the Duchess of
Cambridge, which ends today.
